I’ve been soaking oak chips in Bourbon for almost two months now, and I’m thinking that I might try this recipe. I’m really looking for a Jefferson Reserver Bourbon Barrel Stout Clone recipe, but can’t find one.
Very excited!!!

Soak 4
oz medium toasted oak chips for 2 weeks in Bourbon. Drain and add to secon
dary for up to 1 month.
Adding a 1 month lagering step at the end of agi
ng benefits this beer in that it precipitates the oak tannins out of solution providing a smoother beer. Oak Tannins can be very “gritty” on the pallet. I would say this step should be mandatory.

For New Years 2011 Breakfast I made delicious Biscuits, omelets and grits. They tuned out very nicely and just as good as biscuits with real butter! I’m sure Paula Dean would disagree.
8 oz. (1-3/4 cups) unbleached all-purpose flour; more as needed for shaping the dough – I like using the Bread Dough Flour
1 Tbs. granulated sugar
2-1/4 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. kosher salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda
4 oz. (8 Tbs.) Smart Balance Buttery Spread Original
3/4 cup very cold buttermilk
The instructions are best described here

*** I didn’t cut the Smart Balance with a knife, but instead with a pastry cutter. Worked nicely.
I’ve completed my 32nd year of life!! I had a wonderful dinner with my wife Joy at Millie’s, where I had some Lamb that was very delicious. She made a pecan pie for desert, and a crumb coffee cake for breakfast. She is so good to me. I was also blessed by all the Birthday text messages, and Facebook comments. I was never a huge Birthday fan, but I really feel it is a great way to celebrate life, and it is so nice to know that people care. I didn’t realize that so many people did! I’m humbled and very thankful for the wonder people that I’ve been blessed to me and know.
It has been several months since I’ve read a book, besides “The Joy of Homebrewing”. Been busy at work and planing a wedding. Now I have some time, and have starting reading “On Religion” by John Caputo. It is a borrowed book from Brent U. and I’ve been tossed back into all the thought’s I’ve been avoiding. There is a sub-title to the book, “Thinking in Action”, and that seems to be more appealing to me than just reading and thinking. The first chapter has capture my attention because there the author is discussing some ideas that are not just “religious” but engaging thought about love, the impossible future, and the unknown about life. Much of this I struggle with because, as mentioned, with faith these is also un-faith, and the tension between the two seems to create more questions than answers. I may or may not post more about this book, but so far I recommend to one struggling with today’s western ideas about faith and religion.
I was married on 10/9/10. Not quite 10/10/10 but it was well worth having it on a Saturday. It was such a great time with my friends, family, new friends, and new family. Everyone made it a real blessing, and so very special! I’m so thankful for all the people that came out to Ragged Mountain Farm for the wedding, missed those that couldn’t make it, and wish I could have invited everyone I know. I was also blessed by the toast my brother John gave Joy and I, he is such a good man, and I long for the day that we don’t live on opposite coasts of the country. Both sets of parents were so gracious, helpful, and in making the rehearsal and wedding wonderful. (the Ivy Inn was a great place for some delicious food!) Lastly, I thank the Underwoods for coming so far and being so involved with my life and wedding. The ceremony was perfect, and the flower girls were so beautiful!
It feels crazy that I’ve pledged to be with Joy for the rest of my life, yet I’m so glad to have the privilege of being married to such a woman. She is a great balance to my skepticism, and brings laughter to the mundane. She is a blast to cook with, to let me ramble about beer with, to enjoy a bad movie with, and has helped me to remember the humble attitude of thankfulness and grace.
A new chapter has begun…
I thought that Google Wave was very helpful for the book discussions I engaged in using Wave. It could be a great tool, but I don’t recall very good it being publicized as a full release, nor did it seem position well in the market. I feel they only targeted developers and avid web bloggers/users, that in theory would seem have a high use for the app, but in reality didn’t and it now has flopped. I really like Google Groups, I wish they would integrate wave with groups creating a comprehensive central point of communication, file access, and add calendar integration, with email reminders and publications.
I would give this flick 4 out of 5 start. Cheesy yes. Action was creative. Language was decent. Violence was clean…not gory. Plot yes. Setup for squeal probably. Characters semi-predictable. I would also rank this one high because I did not figure out the twist in the plot, and there is still things to resolve in the ending. If you were to ask me , “is it $12 or $12 to see in the theater”. Maybe but yest to the $2 theater, and totally worth a red box rental plus a little more. I’d say it is a very entertaining move for the fellas. sorry ladies you might be intimidated by the female character, she knows how to put up a fight and shoot an RPG standing straight up.
I remember when Wal-Mart ads were all about made in the USA, but it seems greed has taken over. could they be fueling our national debt, while keeping workers in the category of poverty?
